Desolation Angel Radio Thursday May 31st
Friday Jun 01, 2012
Friday Jun 01, 2012
This Thursday night's show combined just a little bit of it all. A tribute to Doc Watson, who was so foundational in keeping the Bluegrass tradition and sound vital and alive. A block of women: Katie Grace, Elizabeth Cook, Carlene Carter and Shelby Lynne, all singing songs they wrote about the same topic, with just a little different take on it from each of them. The Derailers.
Yours truly, with the final 20 minutes devoted to the town I grew up in, the people I love and some events that occurred that brought into laser focus the same thing we talk about on here all the time. The gospel of the Desolation Angel, based in heart, soul, rhythm, blues, country and rock. The songs and stories that bring a small town to life.
Enjoy, and remember to spread the word and keep the Desolation Angel family growing.

Tuesday night's episode, all boxed up neatly for your downloading, streaming, take it with you wherever you go pleasure. This one runs all the map, as is our wont, with the same thread that runs through. Artists and bands who don't give a damn, and put out what's in their blood to do. Pursuing some unknown horizon and playing what touches them, shapes them and makes them smile.
This Tuesday had Van Morrison and Ray Charles, Chris Carter, Delta Spirit, Natasha James, Beth McKee, Anders Osborne and Eric Lindell and a few more joining the party.
Enjoy, and remember two things. I do this without advertisers and sponsors, so it's produced and funded by me, and every one of these cuts has been paid for and you get to hear it all for free. Well, not really free, I"m depending on your sense of what's right to pay in this way. Go find Desolation Angel Radio on Facebook and Like it, or send a friend request to me, Kip Williams, or follow it on Twitter, kip_williams. Share this page, use the Green button below, and rate it, comment on it or send me an email. That's how we spread the gospel of the Desolation Angel, here in the high church of Rock, Country and Blues.
Peace out,

Thursday night was the start of a long holiday weekend, and where I come from, Michigan, it's the official start of summer, and no one, absolutely no one knows how to celebrate summer like we do up there.
Everyone knows the names that have come out of the state of Michigan, but this show is a whole bunch of working bands and artists who don't get that same recognition, but work hard, real hard. Most of them hold two jobs to pay the bills and are playing at night, and scraping the money together for their next CD release, and if you live up there, you can hear them in small joints, where you can get up close and personal, the way a band should be heard.
The Inside Outlaws: Pat V. & The Detroit 3, Matt Dmits, Doop and The Inside Outlaws, Alison Lewis - people like Rachel Brooke, and Whitey Morgan and The '78's. The West side and Kalamazoo represented by Mike Struwin and Greensky Bluegrass. Bands like The Howling Diablos, and The Deadstring Brothers. Folks like Jim McCarty. All true Michigan folks, all people who have music in their blood, down in the bones and in their souls. Down deep, where it counts.
Support these folks, take a listen, find them out on the weekend and go hear them live, you won't regret it, seriously.
Remember to like Desolation Angel Radio on FB, and follow these artists as well, and get out to see them.

This Thursday's show was all about the roots of it, the basics. All acoustic, and reaching way back to people like Robert Johnson and Elmore James and pulling into the present with a ton of stuff from Luther Dickinson, the Carolina Chocolate Drops and the Heritage Blues Orchestra, with stops along the way at Duane Allman and the South Memphis String Band (Luther Dickinson, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Jimbo Mathus and company) and an absolutely stunning, smoking cut from Gary Clark, Jr.
If you can't sit down with an acoustic guitar, a banjo, a mandolin, a dobro, a fiddle; anything that is a stringed instrument that is completely unplugged and acoustic and can't sing a song or harmonize with others, what the hell are you doing calling yourself a musician? Because that's where it all began, and where it all has to come back to. Always, no matter what.
Thanks for supporting the show, the music and that artists. Remember to Share this using the little Green share button just down below to the left, or via e-mail and find Desolation Angel Radio on Facebook and Like it there to stay in touch with all the news and views here.

Tuesday's episode was chock full of the blues, it's electric, modern derivative. People like Aaron Williams & The Hoodoo, Davis Coen, Reed Turchi and it's foremost proponent Lucero. Insurgent R & B from J. C. Brooks & The Uptown Sound. A couple of old masters, like Ray Wylie Hubbard with an ode to his wife Judy, or as she's known Mother Hubbard, and another old master Waylon, with a track from his son, Shooter setting up that whole father and son connection. A live cut from the acknowledged masters of finger-picking Toy and Tommy Caldwell, The Marshall Tucker Band.
Thanks for supporting the artists and the music. Remember to share these broadcasts, and remember to go find Desolation Angel Radio on Facebook and Like it to say in touch with the happenings around here.

Miss last night's show? Get caught up today, right at your desk.
A guided tour of New Orleans and JazzFest. If you thought JazzFest was just jazz, you're dead wrong. 7 days, 11 stages, 350 bands and that's just during the day. The action really heats up at night when the bands and musicians hit the town and start mingling and sitting in with one another. Tonight's show, an aural odyssey that takes you through it's depth and breadth. Enjoy
