More than ever, rock and roll artists, musicians have become our Ghost Poets and conductors on the Mystery Train. Some themed sets, the answer to a challenge and 3 new releases covered.
Make no mistake, children, the storm is upon us and it swirls around us daily, and shelter can be found, and like minded hearts and souls can be heard. We cover new releases from John Hiatt, Micky & The Motorcars and the Midnight River Choir this week. Over 20 artists speaking out and singing songs about the current political, economic, religious and social scene and a challenge answered by a listener.
I was challenged, be one stalwart soul over the amount of time I must spend coming up with music for the show, as it's sole producer, music director and host. That challenge was easily answered, a random pull of my iPod built one entire set with the music that's normally heard here. As always; authentic, passionate, full of raw rock and roll soul and touching base with the true authentic roots of music; blues, country, gospel , rock and roll, Americana, roots, I don't care what you call it, it's real. Scroll to the bottom, click "Listen Now", "Play in pop-up" or "Download" and don't forget that the podcast is available in iTunes for free. Please, please, please become part of the show. Comment on it, rate it, write an e-mail. It's easy to keep up with it, you can Like Music That Doesn't Suck Canal Water or The Desolation Angel on Facebook (and that's the only way you'll get a full setlist of who's played each week), hit me, Kip Williams, with a Friend request on Facebook, or follow me on Twitter (kip_williams@twitter.com). Share this on Facebook, and you do get some extra consideration when asking for certain artists or songs in upcoming shows.
As always, thanks to you all. The show will be going live, coming up here in the Fall at least one night a week, nationwide, and that's due to you, and these great artists here, not me.
And you know that's true because I'm
The Desolation Angel
Peace out.

Long live rock. . . . .

So you think rock and roll is dead? That there's no life left in the blues, in rock, in country and there aren't any bands left that play it live, with no autotune, with no digital effects? That everything has been absorbed by the last 2 remaining record labels, by ClearChannel? Far from it!!! Scroll down and click "Listen Now" or "Play in pop-up" or "Download" and prepare to have your ears and mind blown.
Rock is alive and well, and there's a ton of bands out there under the radar, road warriors who are slinging it every night, 300 nights a year that play across all genres, that bring authenticity, passion and roots to the music. Multi-instrumentalists and songwriters who believe in what they're doing and keep pouring their hearts and souls out night after night. Rock, country, blues, Americana, roots, authentic, passionate, I don't care what you call it, because it can't be categorized, it can only be played and heard, and touch that place inside people that only music can touch, where words aren't adequate.
This week, there's 25 artists here and for the majority of you, 80% of them you've never heard of, not because they're not good enough, far from it. They're better than 95% of what's out there right now, but they refuse to play by the rules and won't let a producer or a label tell them "what sound sells". For them, it's not about maximizing profit, it's about the music and what the sound that lives inside their souls sounds like. I guarantee you this, if you stick around this week, you'll love 75% of what you hear, and like or appreciate the effort behind 100% of it. Guaranteed.
Listen up, share the shit out of this, because it's not about me, it's about them, and what they're doing, and they deserve the support. Big props to my son, Cody Williams, and Nic Holcomb for turning me on to 4 of them, and big props to Shooter Jennings, and his website www.givememyxxx.com, for providing a safe haven and an umbrella for these artists and putting some organization behind the movement, and, personally for being a supporter of me and this broadcast.
Keep on rockin' in the free world, like St. Christoper says, American rock and roll is the most important form of art in the history of humanity, period. Keep believing and never stop keeping the flame at the heart of the altar of the high church of Rock and Roll alive in your heart.
Use the Green share button just below this to share it on Facebook and Twitter. Fan or Like Music that Doesn't Suck Canal Water or The Desolation Angel (or both) on Facebook, or just plain send a friend request to me, Kip Williams. Remember that you can subscribe to this broadcast in iTunes as well.
If you want to know about any of these artists, use the comments section here, or the available e-mail, or Facebook to contact me, I'll tell you how to get to their websites, how to buy their music, what their tour schedule is. Just do it and keep listening, rock isn't dead, it never went away, it was just waiting for you to catch up.
You can believe it, because I'm the Desolation Angel
Peace out,
Kip

Welcome back, he said sarcastically.
The past 10 days have been rather life-changing, with some seismic events that have pretty well reshaped the map of my life. There's too much to say, and not enough words, so hopefully, dear listener, you'll be able to read the DaVinci code in the music. . . . .

Some real treats this week in that authentic, passionate music vein, and a chance for you to get free, no-strings music. As you know by now, this podcast and little blurb are big fans and supporters of Shooter Jennings and the associated artists over at givememyxxx.com. Shooter and the bands over there have put together a compilation; Southern Independents, Vol. 1, 12 tracks and different artists in all, and you'll get to hear all 12 here this week. As well, jump that link and head over there, and you can download it for free. If that's too much for you, and you don't want to download it, just leave a comment here at this space, and I'll even burn you a physical one with a track listing and get it out to you and cover the postage.
The other half of the artists this week cover two incredible guitar slingers whom you wouldn't suspect of being that good (you'll have to listen to it to find out who these two 70's icons are, and they're not two of the normal suspects. Another blues guitar slinger you've never heard of from Britain, Blackie and The Rodeo Kings, Truth and Salvage Co., Justin Townes Earle and Dave Alvin with the definitive Johnny Ace song.
The Southern Independents include: Shooter, Robert Earl Reed, Slackeye Slim, Dallas Moore, Rachel Brooke, Jimbo Mathus, Fifth on The Floor, Last False Hope, Bob Wayne, J.B. Beverly, The Drive-By Truckers and Hellbound Glory.
Give it a listen, thanks for stopping by, and remember to "Like" Music that Doesn't Suck Canal Water on Facebook, or The Desolation Angel. Go ahead and send Kip Williams a Friend request (and tell me it's from the podcast, I'm paranoid.) The 'cast is also available for subscription in iTunes, just search Kip Williams

If you've ever had a friend, a true friend, in the meaning that goes way the fuck beyond "friend" as in Facebook friend, a blood brother, you'll get this one. Don't have much more to say except this:
Kiss your kids, tell the ones you love that you do, out loud. This rodeo, this flying circus we're in called life is a one-way ticket and no one, absolutely no one gets out alive. So live full throttle and out loud. Suicide wrap your right hand in and wait for the gate to slam open and you hang on for your 8 seconds until you hear that cowbell. This is live, this is real; there's no game or system reset, and this is not a dress rehearsal, the stage is yours to take, so do it. What the hell are you waiting for?

American music; rock and roll, blues, country, bluegrass is authentic and real. The songwriters, musicians and guitar slingers that this country has produced are some of the most real, raw, authentic, passionate people around. I'll quote St. Christopher, a Nebraska rock and roller:
American music is the most important art form in the history of mankind. Period.
This statement will probably cause me to be labeled as an ignorant, nationalistic red-neck…… and there might be some truth to that.
I can appreciate classical music. I don’t understand it, but I like. Furthermore, I’ve been to Jamaica and got a small taste as to what Bob Marley was talking about and why Reggae has the sound it does. And let’s call it what it is, bands like The Motherfuck’n Saints wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for Englishmen like Tony Iomi and Lemmy Kilmister hammering out Black Sabbath and Motorhead albums.
The fact is, our country be it as it may with all our hyper-conservative bullshit, ridiculous blind patriotism, and grandiose religious nonsense, has produced the best musicians and songwriters in the history of the world. Country, blues, American folk, bluegrass, and rock & roll are poetry that came from the soul of a unique breed of people that will never be repeated or duplicated.
So, this week, more of those unknown, unsigned, underappreciated artists:
Tyler Bryant
Jeff Ray
American Graveyard
The Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band
Lissie
American Bang
Taddy Porter
The South Memphis String Band
Warren Haynes
Lukas Nelson and The Promise of the Real
Masters and savants of American music: Robert Earl Keen, Ray Wylie Hubbard, John Mellencamp, Steve Earle and Gregg Allman
Don't think, just listen and feel. Support these artists and check out givememyxxx.com over at Shooter's place, download this 'cast here or on iTunes and turn your friends on to these artists. Remember to Share this and let your people's in on the secret, American music is alive, well and kicking ass.

. . . .Come out of the gate each morning with both barrels blazing, pedal-to-metal, full-tilt boogie, all-in and balls-out, what's stopping you? Do you want to live forever? That'd be boring.
. . . .Got your back. somewhere out there in the night
. . . .Kiss your kids, tell the ones you love out loud that you do. Seize the precious moments before they're ripped away from you. This rodeo is a one-way ticket and no one, absolutely no one gets out alive. There aren't a lot of second chances, and we don't get to dictate terms and circumstances of how the ticket gets punched. This ain't no dress rehearsal, and the curtain's gone up, it's real and right now. It's not about yesterday or tomorrow. It's about right fucking here, right fucking now. This, what you're reading, what you're hearing, is the proof, the words, the sounds and the sights of someone changing his own life and his own world and not being afraid to put it out there. What have you done for yourself lately and why are you waiting? Do it now.
